Error on install - how to work around?

Hello,
on attempting to run install I get:
To run DaDaBIK you need to set magic_quotes_gpc to on in php.ini

Unfortunately I, like many others, am running on a hosted platform and there is no way on earth that my ISP is going to modify their PHP ini build for my benefit.
Is there a work around or alternative?

Skip that - answered own question - read posting on adding .htaccess with the correct line to set quotes on. ;-)
